Summer garden party for a 70th birthday

My Dad is John, come this way to celebrate his 70th birthday!

Your summer garden party does not have to be an expensive event. I live in a small English village where there is a wealth of clever mums. We had a photographer, event stylist, French fine dining chef, plating staff, waiting staff and an excellent cake creator to make this party extra special.

I borrowed a marquee from a friend and hired the chairs and tables from my children's school in return for a donation.

Faye from www.woodland-weddings.com transformed the marquee into a vision of loveliness. All our guests were blown away by how stunning it looked.

Bee hive drink dispensers were perfect for pink lemonade on a hot July day.

Handwritten table numbers on brown paper gave an organic feel. The school chairs were covered with pashminas which guests wore in the evening once the sun went down.

Fresh flowers from the woods, ivy coupled with fake flowers added extra life and colour to the setting.

Simple hand drawn place mats on brown paper. Napkin holders were hand written chalkboard tags tied beautifully with ivy. The guests' menu choice was written on the reverse.

The hanging ornate picture frames were a hit with the guests old and young! Sarah of www.simplysarah.co.uk captured the day beautifully with her stunning photographs.

Steph's Cuisine who offer French fine dining, delighted our thirty two guests with a three course sit down meal, with aperitifs and canapes to start. Typically French with the apple sorbet cleanser with calvados and French wine with each course, truly délicieux!

And finally, la pièce de résistance was this naked chocolate summer birthday cake by Katy of www.thealbionhousebakery.com
John was one happy 70 year old!
